Guidelines for Molded Polyethylene Shipping and Storage Drums

• Drum Types & Sizes: This specification encompasses self-supporting, molded polyethylene drums with tight or open heads, designed for surface and air transport, ranging from 5 gallons (19 liters) to 119 gallons (450 liters) nominal capacity
• Material Usage: Virgin or recycled polyethylene plastics, or combinations, can be used, provided the final product adheres to this specification's requirements
• Unit Measurements: The values provided in inch-pound units are considered standard. SI unit conversions are supplementary and not considered standard
• Hazardous Goods Compliance: Drums intended for hazardous materials must comply with and be tested according to the United States Department of Transportation Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 49, Parts (100-199)
• Additives & Design Discretion: Suppliers may use additives for the resin and design the drums as they see fit, within the allowable limits of regulatory and performance requirements
• Shipper's Responsibility: The Hazardous Material (Dangerous Goods) Regulations require the shipper or offeror to determine the packaging's suitability for its intended purpose
