Indulge in the luxurious softness of our extra fine merino wool roving tops, sourced from Australia and South America. With a fineness of 19 microns and a staple length of approximately 2.35 inches (58-60 mm), these mulesing-free fibers are perfect for macraweaving tapestries, nuno felting, wet felting, spinning, and hand weaving. The lower the number of microns in roving, the softer the fibers are. Expertly dyed in-house at the DHG dyeing plant in Italy. We offer a palette of vibrant colors to unleash your creativity. The quality of this extra-fine merino wool roving is an excellent choice for any felting process, i.e. felting, wet felting, nuno felting and for spinning art yarns. When used in macraweaving with techniques such as Soumak or bubbling, you are able to incorporate more texture to your projects. 30 gms yield about 3.5 feet in one continuous length. This pack includes 30 gms each of 5 different colors for a total of 150 gms. The roving will be package in an airtight bag and should be allowed to expand before using.

  • Elevate your fiber arts projects with this premium merino wool roving, ensuring exceptional quality and consistency and a delightful tactile experience.
  • Extra Fine Merino Wool: Crafted with extra fine 19-micron Merino wool from Australia and South America, perfect for macraweave, tapestry weaving, felting, and spinning projects. The staple length is approximately 2.35 inches.
  • Versatile Fiber: Suitable for macraweaving, tapestry weaving, nuno felting, wet felting, hand weaving, and spinning. This merino wool roving can be spun with other fibers to create one of a kind art yarn.
  • Ethically Sourced Mulesing-free wool ensures that the wool was gathered in safe and sustainable practices that do not harm the sheep. Expertly dyed in Italy at DHG Dyeing House Gallery resulting in vibrant, long-lasting colors.
  • Premium Quality: This type of fine merino wool roving is an excellent choice for adding texture to macraweave projects. The Soumak weave and bubbling stitches look beautiful when choosing fine merino wool silver like this because it comes in one continuous ribbon length and is very luxurious. Soumak weave, also known as “braid weave” creates a raised texture effect by wrapping the weft yarn around the warp threads resulting in a braided appearance.
  • Generous quantity: Each 30 gram piece is approximately 3.5 feet in one continuous ribbon length. For macraweaving, the length is often split down the middle which doubles the length. And for felting it is best to tear into 3 or 4 long lengths in order to get thin tufts of wool roving for layering.
  • For Felting: This extra fine merino wool roving is wonderful to work with in felting. Using long narrow strips of roving, you can tear off thin and even tufts of wool that will intermingle well with each other and result in a nice strong felt.
